Site Preparation

With underground facilities proper site preparation is a must, the smallest incident can cause incredible destruction, injury, and even loss of life, all translating into substantial unnecessary costs. The company performs utility investigations and provides different ways of reporting the location of buried utilities. The most effective way is to paint the location of all utilities located during an investigation on the ground above that utility using the INTERNATIONAL COLOR CODE FOR MARKING BURIED FACILITIES chart.

UTILITY LOCATION & COORDINATION COUNCIL UNIFORM COLOR CODES
RED – Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit and Lighting Cables.
YELLOW – Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum or Gasseous materials.
ORANGE – Communication, Alarm or Signal Lines, Cables or Conduit.
BLUE – Water, Irrigation and Slurry Lines.
GREEN – Sewers and Drain Lines.
 WHITE – Proposed Excavation.

Underground Utility Locating

If requested, we will provide a field sketch showing the utilities found during the investigation besides painting the utility location on the ground. We can conduct a utility locate investigation form, customer provided drawings or arrange for all appropriate information and drawings based on the project type and specific geographic location. We use advanced magnetic field detection (MFD) technology to provide superior results and client satisfaction. All location marks shown for existing underground utilities and structures are approximate only and must be exposed by non-destructive digging to confirm the exact depth and location. To be positively sure, underground utilities locations can only be confirmed by a non-destructive excavation method like Hydrovac Daylighting.

Daylighting

“Daylighting” is a non-destructive process using pressurized water or air and a vacuum system to remove soil cover, thereby allowing a visual observation of buried underground facilities. Each Hydrovac combines a water truck, pressure truck, and vacuum truck into one fully self-contained unit. Water or air pressurized up to 3000 psi and delivered through a hand held wand to liquefy the soil cover. The resulting slurry composed of water and earth is then exhumed into a debris hose by a powerful vacuum system and stored in a debris tank on the truck. The buried infrastructure can now be identified and / or repaired.

Equipment

The company utilizes a VAC-TRON trailer mounted 850 gal. diesel X550CFM (PMD 850DT) unit. Given the nature and capability of this equipment, it’s potential in the construction industry is virtually unlimited. Electronic equipment is maintained with exceptional care and respect, well beyond that of most other companies in the business. All electronics are sent in for regular calibration, maintenance, and updates on software. On-grade installations are completed more accurately using our survey experience and procedures.
